Caught between the ancient past and a dystopian future, Elska’s sculptures demonstrate a vision of reality as a malleable element capable of symbolising change.

Through combining ancient practices and experimental technologies, she focuses on how the interconnectivity of different mediums can weave a story, inviting the viewer into the mysticism she finds in her own creative process. In her work there is an intention to consider the human condition, establishing a belonging defined as her own non-sited geography, inviting us to recontextualise adversity as a wealth of adventure.

BIOGRAPHY

Elska Leeloo (b.1999) is a British-Swedish artist working from her ceramics studio in East London, where she teaches the importance of physical practices in an increasingly digital world. Despite having been accepted into formal arts education on two separate occasions, she has been forced to forge an alternative path due to the demands of the chronic health condition Endometriosis, and continues to be self-taught in all of her respective mediums.

Following her debut solo exhibition in 2023, she has spent the subsequent two years focused on developing the technology needed to bring her most ambitious projects to light. ‘Memory of Ownership’ - presented at Andreas Kalatzis Gallery; Patmos, Greece - placed her work in the homes of private collectors around the globe and tested the reception of her first ‘phygital’ project, Amorfeus, a sustainable ceramic initiative that invited viewers to collaborate in a generative process of destruction and regeneration. This project was put on hold due to the technological limitations of the time, but Elska Leeloo has now completed the creation of a platform and marketplace that utilises blockchain technologies to support projects that integrate digital and physical mediums, allowing her to fully realise the ambitious concepts she has been developing for years.
